• On the way to the airport to India, a rainbow appeared and we thought geez….while we may not find a pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow (sorry to destroy the myth for some of you) we thought it was a brilliant sign…..

  • Had lunch in the center today (we decided to gusy up a bit) and then headed off to Moynathy – the winner of Irelands "Tidest Village" award.  Moynathy is a very small village but incredably quaint – with the babbling brook, expectedly tidy streets, hedges,  flower plots, and buildings.

There is an 18th century church that has been deconsecrated and been turned into, of all things, a credit union.  The old church cum credit union's graveyard is a unique place to take pictures.  The locals were more than likely thinking I was a mad hatter for walking around taking snapshots of headstones.

  • Out the back of Woodhaven House is a long lane that meanders through many farm fields and pasture land.  Darren and I took a long walk there today and met a friend who was very interested in us or our camera.

There is a great view through the fields of the Tower of Loyd – a impressive landmark that was built in 1791.

Spring in Ireland means lots of flowers – primroses, cowbells, tulips, and lots of daffodils.  What better place to enjoy a beautiful spring day but at DD and Peter's farm in Ballateague – one of my most favorite places in the world.  There are also a lot of babies about – ponies, calfs and of course my favorite – lambs.  The one I am holding is a day old.

Peter has had this land for 50 years and built the home they both live in.  Turf and wood are used in the stove for cooking.  We had a wonderful Irish stew, mash and trifle for supper; ham, salad and apple tart for tea.  We took a long stroll down the lane through their fields and did a few chores…even Joan got a ride in Peter's Massey Furgusen tractor.

  • Did a bit of touristy stuff today.  Visited tombs reported to be over 5000 years old that had awesome carved stones – thought it was a bit better than Newgrange because of the hike and the solitude.

It is a pretty good climb to the top but we were rewarded with an amazing view.

Also went to Trim Castle – the largest Norman castle in Europe and largest castle in Ireland.  The architecture was amazing  - especially for the time (late 1100's) and included fresh collected rain water, interesting plumbing and incredible defense structures in the design.

  • One of the very many things I love about Ireland are the addresses…take for instance my inlaws….their address is Woodhaven House, the road they live on and Kells, Co Meath.  Below is their home which is lovely.

I stepped outside to take the picture and the air had a lovely aroma of peat and a nice, fresh breeze – not too cold.

After a day of flying we were grateful for a cuppa (tea) and supper – chicken and two types of potatoes (it is Ireland of course) and a great bottle of wine.

  • So, right before we leave our home for two years….we decide now would be a good time to get around to putting the laminate we bought 3 years ago down in the dining room.  We also took off the old overhang…the view is super stunning…why o why did we not do this sooner…..

Also got around to putting a new deck up – well truth be told, the old one wasn't to code 😉

My good friend Shane came over and we christened the deck with procesco, chinese food and watching the sun go down…it helped take the sting out of our not being able to enjoy the sunsets from our home for a few years…check it out

  • So today was it…the big move, leaving the house bare and getting us on our way.  The operation, packing and moving by professionals, is an amazing site.  They use a lot of paper but holy cow, can they pack fast.  They got here at 8 and were done by 2 – a whole house….crazy

By the way, the stuff used to make diapers also doubles as packing material – hence the scooby do…but I am not sure how leak proof it is:)

  • How cute are they?…they are two of the best reasons I can think of to make that trip.

  • So moving is an interesting process of reviewing EVERYTHING you own and realizing you dont need most of it….boy does it feel good to purge.  Today stuff went to storage that we couldnt part with, throw or give away.
