The preparations for the Ganesh Festival are in full swing here – apparently this festival while celebrated all over India is particularly a big deal here in the south. Ganesh is worshipped as the god of fortune and wisdom. The idols are put into the river and from what I read, it is a bit of an ecological problem given that the stautes like the ones below are made from plaster of paris and are spray painted with enamel. Apparently the moves towards eco-friendly idols has started but there still seems to be some resistance because of the market from bright colors….check out more information here
